Archie's Anxiety: Summer 2021
We have a guest blogger here at Practical Voodou. Archie Waters is finally ready to share his story of the stressful summer of 2021. Welcome Archie.
Some real things have happened lately. The sky has been smokey for days, then we had hailstones that were the size of golf balls, which are my least favorite balls. Yesterday, a very skinny, crippled coyote hobbled across the street when I was out for my walk. And it's so hot. It all makes me anxious. I don't want to worry my family, but I need to talk to someone.
Jag is always upbeat; I 'll see what he thinks.
Jag: Arch, why is your tail so low, bro?
Archie: The weather is all weird and the animals seem sick. I haven't even seen a rabbit in the longest time.
Jag: We can't do anything about the weather and your family takes great care of you. You have a good vet, a great groomer, and that little girl from down the street who comes to play with you.
Archie: You're right, I am a lucky pup. Still...
Jag: Relax, beg for more treats, and enjoy yourself.
I don't think Jag has the big picture. What made me think I should trust a cat? I need someone wise. I'll talk to Webster.
Archie: Hi there, do have a minute? I am feeling anxious about things that have been going on lately.
Webster: That's means you're paying attention. Things are out of whack. I have been studying the situation— climate change, the pandemic, politics— we should all be anxious.
Archie: Isn't there anything I can do?
Webster: Not much. Just be the best pet you can be for your family. They could use an emotional support dog these days.
Well, that didn't help much. Maybe I need a female's perspective. I'll ask Lizzie.
Lizzie: What's wrong, Archie, you didn't even bat your eyelashes at me like you usually do?
Archie: Everything seems wrong right now. The heat, the smoke, the monsoon hail. I think it's making the animals sick.
Lizzie: Even if all of that is happening, you're good.
Archie: Really?
Lizzie: Look you have the best deal in this house: a comfy crate, soft blankets, baskets of toys, tasty bones, bubble baths, tummy rubs. I would like to be you.
Archie: What you're saying is true, but...
Lizzie: Sweetie, just wag your tail and show people how happy you can be. Everyone will feel better.
